BIO
DeAnn Huinker is director of the Center for Mathematics and Science Education Research and an associate professor in the Department of Curricuum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is actively involved with the Milwaukee Public Schools and directs Wisconsin ESEA Title II grants on the development of teacher leaders for elementary school mathematics and on content-focused induction support of beginning elementary teachers in mathematics and science. Dr. Huinker teaches courses in mathematics education with emphasis on current issues and research on teaching and learning at the elementary and middle school levels. She conducts research and writes about mathematics teaching, children's learning of mathematics, and the preparation of teachers of mathematics. and science education, preparation of math and science teachers, and math assessment. She is currently chair of the pre-K-2 assessment sampler task force for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and is editor of the journal department on "Supporting Teacher Learning" in Teaching Children Mathematics. Her professional work has included serving as program chair for the 2003 Annual Meeting of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, chair of the Editorial Panel of Teaching Children Mathematics, president of the Milwaukee Area Mathematics Council, and journal editor of Wisconsin Teachers of Mathematics. Dr. Huinker earned an M.A. at the University of Northern Iowa and an Ed.D. at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.EXPERTISE
